Keep asking questions

Hello everyone,

Keep asking questions until you have all the answers you need to do your job well. There are no stupid questions—only unhelpful answers.

As a leader, one of your most important responsibilities is to safeguard and transfer knowledge. A solid process and a well-maintained knowledge base can be incredibly helpful, but it’s just as important to ensure your team has the time, tools, and support to properly capture and share their knowledge. That responsibility doesn’t lie solely with your team—it starts with you.

Documenting knowledge is often seen as tedious or time-consuming. Still, I want to stress how essential it is. Proper documentation is the backbone of knowledge transfer, effective collaboration, and long-term information retention within any organization.

Proactive knowledge management lays the foundation for proactive collaboration. By asking each other questions, we not only exchange information, but also gain insight into each other’s perspectives and interests. That’s how we break down silos and create stronger connections across teams.

Don’t underestimate the value of knowledge management. Here are a few practical tips:

  • Regularly ask questions within your team to encourage ongoing knowledge exchange;
  • Promote the use of a centralized knowledge base where team members can find and contribute information (with proper permissions);
  • Invest in training and workshops focused on knowledge sharing and team collaboration;
  • Foster a culture where people feel safe and encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences without fear of negative consequences.
