Every organization has a unique DNA

Hello everyone,

Every organization has a unique DNA—its strengths, weaknesses, and defining character. Recognizing these traits is essential because they form the foundation for sustainable success. Too often, leaders focus primarily on addressing weaknesses. While acknowledging and acting on areas for improvement is admirable, the real key lies in aligning change efforts with what your organization is already good at. That’s how you unlock authentic growth and innovation—while avoiding the pitfalls of poorly fitting transformations.

The drive for change and innovation is natural for organizations that want to stay competitive and relevant. However, a common trap is pursuing change without considering the core identity of the organization. When that identity is overlooked, the potential to excel in areas of natural strength is lost. Trying to force your organization into something it’s not can lead to underperformance and confusion among employees.

Use that familiar phrase you often hear when things don’t go as planned—“Welcome to [your company]”—as a conversation starter. Go deeper: talk with your team about what’s really going on beneath the surface. Identify the weak links and address them. A clear overview of your organization’s strengths and weaknesses allows you to distinguish between changes that align with your identity and those that may lead to confusion or resistance.

Rather than forcing a square peg into a round hole, the real art lies in leveraging your organization’s natural strengths—and those of your people.
